Quite frankly that statement works literally and figuratively. Exhibit A: Janelle Monae's contrasting-lapel jacket in black on stark white, or the
Stella McCartney version with black on ivory. Janelle Monae has possibly taken the fifties menswear thing to an unparalleled level of chic, and I'm looking forward to the day when she replaces Blake Lively as the face of Chanel (hint hint Mr. Lagerfeld). This Maya Angelou quote is the perfect sort of lip service, the kind you keep in the front of a notebook and have it printed, framed and hung on a wall. I plan full well to take this year by storm and grab the world by the now proverbial 'lapels'.
